Austin St. John's Quotes
- [on MMPR co-star Walter Jones and Comic-Con appearances] He was the guy that is actually responsible for telling me about these conventions that got me back. I called him back while I was on the Kuwait/Iraq border and I was like, 'Dude, I'm done, I need to come home, need a break from this'. He was like, 'Well you're not going to believe what I'm doing'. I was like, 'What're you doing?' He's like, 'I'm on the road doing conventions meeting fans.' I was like, '...They're not six anymore!' He's like, 'Yeah, they grew up', and I went, 'No they didn't, stop!' And he's like, 'Yeah, they grew up.' And I was like, 'Wow...what're they saying?' And then he told me about some of the really funny, heartfelt moments and then he told me about some real intense moments. Stories that fans had shared with him and had discussed about how myself or one of my other cast mates may have impacted the lives of some of the folks that you may know as Ranger fans. So he ended up kind of bringing me back in to get me back in touch.
- [on meeting fans at conventions] I get to see all these little guys who grew up into big guys and girls, ladies and gentlemen, who are telling me how myself or my cast mates have affected their lives. What do you say to somebody who says 'I grew up in a really horrible neighborhood where everybody did drugs, you or your cast mate are the reason I chose not to'? That's pretty powerful, 'When I was young, the only happy times I had was watching "Power Rangers" with my parents, and we sat and watched you. Later when my parents died, I would sit and rewatch the show because for an hour, it would take me back to the happiest time in my life'. How do you respond to that?
- [on the first pilot for MMPR] The first one, we were actually kicking people in the head and you know, really kind of beating the heck out of the first Bulk, which was before Skull. Then the second one came along and they were like 'That's too violent, you can't do that, you need to film a second one'. So we filmed a second one and it was less violent, and they're like 'Okay well, no head shots, no blood', so by the time the series came along, you never saw us hit anybody in the head. Never saw us pop anybody in the noggin. And man, you guys ever watch Wile E. Coyote or Bugs Bunny? They're dropping each other off of cliffs, rocks on each other's heads, rockets on their backs into trains, and *we're* too violent? I was like 'We gotta get some perspective here', but you don't argue with 20th Century Fox when you're trying to pay the bills.
