- Howerton was going to study Aerospace Engineering at Auburn University before deciding to attend Juilliard, where he graduated with a B.F.A. in the Actor Training Program. He is a fairly talented vocal mimic and acquits easily to impersonating various dialects, a skill he developed during his "military brat" childhood which require constant moving to different areas and countries.
- Glenn Howerton was born in Japan to American parents, Janice and Glenn, a decorated fighter pilot. He has a sister, Courtney. He was raised in several countries (including South Korea and England) as a military brat, eventually graduating from junior high and senior high schools in Montgomery, Alabama. His ancestry is English, Scottish, Irish, German, and, more distantly by his maternal grandfather, Ashkenazi Jewish.
- Corey Howard, his character from That '80s Show (2002), was the cousin of Eric Forman (Topher Grace), the central character of That '70s Show (1998).
- Engaged to actress Jill Latiano as of February 2008, the couple wed in 2009. They have a son, Miles (born 2011).
