- Of Puerto Rican descent, Sierra feigned a noticeable accent in Barney Miller (1975), Sanford and Son (1972), Barney Miller (1975),and Sanford and Son (1972). However, in other appearances, including The Towering Inferno (1974) and the All in the Family (1971) episode "Archie is Branded", he spoke in his normal unaccented voice.
- Sierra was familiar to fans of Barney Miller (1975) as "Detective Sergeant Chano Amenguale", and as "Julio Fuentes", the Puerto Rican neighbor on Sanford and Son (1972), wherein his character was often the butt of racist insults and jokes via the show's main character, "Fred G. Sanford" (portrayed by Redd Foxx, who was friends with Sierra offscreen).
