- Of Puerto Rican descent, he was born in New York City but lived in Puerto Rico as a teen and collegiate before returning to the mainland on an acting scholarship to the Pasadena Playhouse in the late 1950s.
- Was a guest at the Western Film Fair in Charlotte, NC, in 1997 and 2005.
- Was the first actor to be involved with three different productions of "Zorro", and also the first Latino to play the role of Zorro for television. He was the voice of Zorro/Don Diego in the animated series The New Adventures of Zorro (1981) (which was broadcast as part of The New Adventures of the Lone Ranger (1980)). He then starred as the elderly Zorro/Don Diego--the only actor to have portrayed both characters--in the series Zorro and Son (1983). Then he was Don Alejandro, Don Diego's father, in Zorro (1990) for three of its four seasons.
