- He was elected to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989 (as a member of The Rolling Stones).
- He was the original choice to replace Brian Jones in the Stones in 1969, but lost out to Mick Taylor due to the fact that for some reason he didn't receive the message that Jagger and Richards had sent him an invitation to join. He eventually did join when Taylor quit the band.
- His brother was the singer, Art Wood, who died in 2006.
- Revealed in an interview with the British Sunday Mirror that his doctors have discovered traces of emphysema in both his lungs, and therefore ordered him to quit his 30-a-day smoking habit immediately.
